Prednisone is used as replacement therapy in patients whose adrenal glands are unable to produce sufficient amounts of cortical. Prednisone has very little mineral corticoid activity, so it is not used in the management of inflammatory conditions or diseases in which the immune system to attack by micro-organisms, it should be noted that it is very different from another group of steroids, called anabolic steroids, which have gained notoriety because of their abuse by some athletes and body builders. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid used to treat inflammation of the eye.
